Karamoja cultural tours
Visit Karamojong manyattas and learn about a semi-nomadic cattle culture in north-eastern Uganda.
Overview
Why visit
The Karamojong are pastoralists whose lives centre on cattle. They live in manyattas, circular homesteads of thorn-bush fences, mud and wood built to protect their herds, and are known for their beadwork and the ikwa worn by men.
Things to do
What happens
Cultural tours visit manyattas and communities. The region also offers bicycle tours, game drives in Kidepo and the wildlife reserves, and hiking. The annual Karamoja Cultural Festival showcases music, dance and art.
Getting there
Getting there
Karamoja is about 9 hours by road from Kampala, or shorter by flying from Entebbe. A local tour company that knows the region helps.
